Introduction
by Dr. Rick Boulay
You have done it! You have survived the slings and arrows of the outrageous cancer misfortune. The pain of an IV start (if just a pinch), the indignity of peek-a-boo hospital gowns (if I had known they would be looking there, I would have polished it up a little), and a steadfast reminder of surgical scars (the doctor says it looks pretty; I think it looks like railway tracks). Oh yeah, you have eyelashes again and require the services of a hairbrush. You have begun to hit your stride.
Many folks feel strongly about giving back for all the kindnesses they have received during the more difficult portions of their journey. There are many avenues open to you at this time. This section will offer you suggestions of cancer-support opportunities available to you. They are so varied that I am sure something will appeal to one of your passions.
There are several ways you can help in the fight against cancer. Joining a cancer-related organization is a great way to get involved. These types of organizations exist to:
-
Offer support to cancer patients and survivors
-
Spread awareness and educate the public about cancer-related issues
-
Raise funds for cancer research
